San Antonio Rampage News Release
HAMILTON, Ontario (March 24, 2009) - Brett MacLean recorded his second power-play goal in as many games but Ben Maxwell recorded a hat trick midway through the game as Hamilton stopped San Antonio's two-game winning streak while cruising to a 6-1 win Tuesday night at Copps Coliseum.
Maxwell got it started putting Hamilton up 1-0 at 7:40 of the first. Then just over five minutes into the second, Maxwell recorded his second goal of the night on a power play. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-0 when Ryan Russell pocketed his 15th goal of the season three and a half minutes later.
San Antonio finally broke through at 11:38 of the second when MacLean scored on the power play to cut the lead to 3-1. The same trio that scored twice on Sunday in Toronto did it again with David Spina and Joel Perrault recording assists.
But Hamilton and Maxwell weren't done. Maxwell's 20th goal on the year gave him a hat trick at the fourteen minute mark of the second frame and the Bulldogs took a 4-1 lead into the third.
There, the Bulldogs were more opportunistic than aggressive scoring twice more on just five shots. Max Pacioretty, reassigned Monday from Montreal (NHL), scored at the 9:47 mark to push the lead to 5-1. Then J.T. Wyman capped the scoring with his sixth goal of the season two minutes later.
The win moves the Bulldogs to 7-1 lifetime against San Antonio, including 4-0 at home.
The Rampage, without the services of Al Montoya after his call-up to Phoenix on Monday, gave Karl Goehring his first start since being acquired from the Moose on March 11. Goehring, who played 23 games in the 05-06 season with San Antonio, allowed six goals on 28 shots in the loss.
Hamilton goaltender Marc Denis allowed just the MacLean goal and stopped 41 Rampage shots to earn the win.
San Antonio gets a travel day tomorrow before playing three straight days in three different cities. San Antonio continues their trek through the North Division facing Lake Erie in Cleveland on Thursday and Syracuse in New York on Friday. The Rampage then return home to face division rival, Rockford, on Saturday.
This Saturday, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders visit the Alamo City for a meet and greet, dance clinic and two on-ice performances when the Rampage host the IceHogs.
