Iowa Chops News Release

The Chops' penalty kill unit was white-hot Tuesday night, but it was Peoria's ability to control the puck and capitalize on their chances that led to a tough 3-2 loss for the Chops at home on Tuesday night.

The first period started with a bang from the Chops' offensive powers, as they notched 14 shots on goal, compared to Peoria's six. Matt Beleskey put the Chops up early on with a goal, helped by Adrian Veideman and Petri Kontiola. The Chops held the Rivermen back with a suffocating defense throughout the period, and were able to take the lead into the second period.

The Peoria Rivermen came out of the locker room ready to score, and they did just that early on, with two goals in the first five minutes of the stanza, scored by Cam Paddock and Yan Stastny. Peoria faced penalty trouble midway through the period, when Trent Whitfield was called for a kneeing penalty at 8:29. The Chops tied the game just five seconds after the infraction, with a goal by Eric Boguniecki. The shots on goal shifted in Peoria's favor, with 14 for the Riverman and eight for the Chops.

The third period was a defensive battle between both teams, each notching seven shots apiece. Peoria's penalty kill unit was hot in the third, stopping all three of Iowa's power play opportunities, and Steve Regier managed to notch the game-winning goal for Peoria with 16 minutes remaining in the period. The Chops gave it their all, but the Rivermen held them back all period long, and took away the win from the Chops.

The Chops now travel to Rockford for another key game against the IceHogs on Wednesday, March 25th at 7:05pm.
