Rampage Defeat Houston, 4-2

SAN ANTONIO - Rampage forward Greg Rallo scored two goals and added two assists as the San Antonio Rampage (27-26-1-5) defeated the Houston Aeros (31-22-4-4), 4-2, on Friday night in front of 8,817 fans at the AT&T Center.

The victory tied the season-series against Houston at four games apiece and pulled the Rampage to within six points of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Rampage power play converted twice in the victory, marking the second-straight game San Antonio has recorded multiple power-play goals. The Silver and Black have tallied a power-play goal in nine of their last 11 games, going 13-for-51 in that span.

Rallo factored in every Rampage goal on the night and has now recorded five goals and four assists in his last six games. The Rampage forward's first goal of the night was his 20th of the season - marking the third time in the last four years he has eclipsed the 20-goal plateau.

Rampage netminder Dov Grumet-Morris stopped 37-of-39 shots on the night to earn his third win in his last five starts. Grumet-Morris has manned the crease for eight-straight starts dating back to Feb. 22.

The Rampage were outshot, 13-2, in the opening frame, but neither team was able to light the lamp in the opening 20 minutes. Houston was 0-for-2 on the power play in the opening frame, while San Antonio was 0-for-1 on the man advantage.

Rallo opened the scoring with his 20th goal of the season at 4:37 of the second period while on the power play. Defenseman Brian O'Hanley fired a shot from the point and Rallo pounced on the rebound with a one-timer from the left faceoff dot.

Houston tied the game at 6:01 of the second period when Dan DaSilva capitalized off a Rampage turnover and beat Grumet-Morris. Carson McMillan gave the Aeros the lead when he batted the puck out of the air from the bottom of the left faceoff circle at 9:56.

Rampage rookie Quinton Howden tied the game at 2-2 with a highlight-reel goal with six seconds remaining in the second period. Howden charged up the right wing past an Aeros defenseman and deked Aeros goaltender Darcy Kuemper before sliding the puck into the net on his backhand. Rallo collected an assist on the play, marking his 100th career AHL helper.

The two teams went into the second intermission tied, 2-2. Entering the game, the Rampage were an impressive 12-2-0-1 when tied after two periods.

Grumet-Morris kept it a 2-2 game with a tremendous sprawling blocker save two minutes into the period. He followed up that effort with another acrobatic save two minutes later. A deflection snuck through his legs, but he kicked back his right skate at the last second and was able to get enough of the puck to send it wide of the net.

Evan Barlow cashed in his first goal in a Rampage sweater this season when he lit the lamp at 6:32 while San Antonio had a 5-on-3 power play. His goal came in his fourth game with the club since signing a professional tryout contact with San Antonio on March 7. Last season, Barlow recorded 30 points (10 goals, 20 assists) in 57 games for the Rampage.

Rallo iced the victory with an empty-net goal at 19:28 of the third period. Rallo leads the Rampage with 21 goals on the season is five goals short of an AHL career-high with 17 games left to play this season.

The Rampage finished the game 2-for-5 on the power play, while Houston was 0-for-4 on the man advantage. Houston won the shots battle on the night, outshooting the Rampage, 39-26.

The Rampage will wrap-up their four-game homestand on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. against the Abbotsford Heat. The Rampage will wear custom St. Patrick's Day jerseys which will be auctioned off during the game.
