Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY- The Syracuse Crunch overcame a two goal deficit before ultimately falling to the Norfolk Admirals 4-3 in a shootout tonight at the War Memorial Arena.

Crunch captain Mike Angelidis capped a two-goal comeback to force overtime with 19.4 seconds remaining in the third period before the Crunch fell to the Admirals for the first time this season.

Josh Brittain had a goal and an assist in regulation in addition to the lone goal in the tie-breaking drill to help the Admirals edge the Crunch. Norfolk netminder Igor Bobkov stopped 38 of 41 shots in regulation and overtime plus all five Syracuse shooters in the shootout.

By earning a point in tonight's contest the Crunch are now tied with the Texas Stars for most points in the American Hockey League. Syracuse drops their overall record to 36-17-3-5 and record at the War Memorial to 13-9-3-2.

After a scoreless first period the Crunch opened the scoring 1:43 into the middle stanza. Vladislav Namestnikov deflected a Philip-Michael Devos shot past Bobkov for Namestnikov's fourth goal of the season.

Norfolk scored the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead over the Crunch. Former Crunch forward Kyle Wilson tied the game at the 5:55 mark of the second. Crunch goaltender Cedrick Desjardins stopped defenseman Nate Guenin point blank but the rebound found its way to Wilson who buried the puck.

Center Chris Wagner gave the Admirals their first lead of the game 11:14 into the middle frame beating Desjardins with an unassisted slap shot from the top of the left circle. Brittain extended the Admirals lead by tipping a Mat Clark pass past Desjardins 6:23 into the third period.

The Crunch scored twice in the third to force overtime. Jared Nightingale one-timed an Angelidis pass from the right circle to cut the Admirals lead to one with 12:41 remaining in regulation. After a flurry of shots on Bobkov in the final minute of regulation Angelidis was able to jam the puck past Bobkov from the side of the net to extend the game into overtime.

Richard Panik, Nightingale, Brett Connolly, Dan Sexton and Matt Taormina were all stopped by Bobkov in the skills competition.
