San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage (11-6-6-0) fell to the Charlotte Checkers (12-11-0-0) 3-2 in front of 3,116 on Wednesday night at the AT&T Center. Mikko Rantanen scored each of San Antonio's two goals, earning the Second Star of the Game.

Charlotte, the affiliate of the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, came out firing in the first period, outshooting the Rampage 10-5 and scoring two goals in just 26 seconds. The initial tally from Brock McGinn and a backhand by David Wolhberg at 13:23 of the frame put the Silver and Black at a 2-0 deficit at the end of the first period.

After a scoreless second frame, it was the Rampage who took some momentum in the final stanza when Rantanen scored an unassisted, shorthanded goal to bring San Antonio within one just over three minutes in. Rantanen notched his second later in the period, wristing a cross-ice pass from Joey Hishon past Drew MacIntyre to knot the game at two.

Derek Ryan ended the Silver and Black's comeback bid, scoring with just eight seconds left in regulation to seal a 3-2 victory for the Checkers.

Key Stat

With two goals on the night, Rantanen is now the Rampage's leading scorer with a team-high 21 points. His eight goals are tied with Colin Smith and Andrew Agozzino for first on the team.

Lineup Notes

Reid Petryk moved up to the second line, playing with Dennis Everberg and Colin Smith. With Patrick Bordeleau out due to a suspension, Dan Maggio drew into the lineup, skating on the fourth line with Troy Bourke and Trevor Cheek.
