Grand Rapids, MI - Goalie Jared Coreau stopped 23 shots to help the Grand Rapids Griffins defeat the Milwaukee Admirals 4-1 Wednesday night.
The loss snapped Milwaukee's five-game road winning streak and seven game road points streak. The win was Grand Rapids' ninth straight.
The Griffins scored the winning goal at 2:05 of the third period. After the Admirals turned the puck over at the Grand Rapids blue line, Eric Tangradi got the puck to the net. The play was blocked down but Martin Frk followed and shot the puck into the net for his fourth goal of the season.
The Griffins added two more goals late in the third period. Eric Tangradi scored with 1:41 to play and Louis-Marc Aubry scored an empty-net goal with 34 seconds remaining in the game.
Milwaukee goalie Juuse Saros stopped 29 shots in the loss. With the loss, Saros had his personal eight-game winning streak snapped.
Grand Rapids scored the first goal of the game at 7:15 of the first period. Andy Miele carried the puck toward the goal. It was blocked away from him but found the tape of Mitch Callahan. Callahan sent a shot from the slot through a screen over the right shoulder of Saros for his seventh goal of the season.
The Admirals tied the game at 8:26 of the first period with a shorthanded tally. Frederick Gaudreau chipped the puck from the Admirals blue line into the Griffins zone. Milwaukee forward Felix Girard chased it down as did Grand Rapids goalie Jared Coreau. Girard beat Coreau to the puck and shot the puck into the empty net for his second goal of the season. It was Girard's first career shorthanded goal. Gaudreau recorded the only assist.
Milwaukee's road trip continues Saturday night at Manitoba. The Admirals return home Tues., Dec. 15 to host the Chicago Wolves at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
