February 3, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
CEDAR PARK, TX (Feb. 3, 2015) - Dan Ellis stopped 32-of-34 shots and 2-of-3 in the shootout to lead the San Antonio Rampage (26-14-4-0) to a 3-2 win over the Texas Stars (19-15-10-1) in front of 3,530 at the Cedar Park Center on Tuesday night. Connor Brickley and Rocco Grimaldi each tallied goals in regulation, and Grimaldi scored what stood as the game-winner in the skills competition to earn the First Star of the Game.
The Stars took the lead early, as Gemel Smith beat Ellis from the slot to give Texas a 1-0 lead. Brickley answered for San Antonio just 1:31 later, blasting the puck from just inside the blue line and beating Anders Lindback to knot the game at one.
Both teams were scoreless over the next 33:36 of play until Justin Dowling sent a one-timer past Ellis on the power play to give the Stars a 2-1 lead with just over a minute remaining in the middle frame.
The Rampage tied the game at two just 38 seconds into the third period when Grimaldi converted off a Texas turnover in front of the net. Neither team would score through the rest of regulation or overtime, sending the game to a shootout.
Vincent Trocheck and Grimaldi each scored in the skills competition, and Ellis made stops on Matej Stransky and Justin Dowling to secure the victory.
The Silver and Black outshot the Stars 43-34, and finished 0-for-5 on the power play while holding the Stars to one goal on three chances with the man advantage.
KEY STAT
The Rampage are now undefeated in shootouts with five wins on the season.
Tuesday's game marked the 100th professional game for Jonathan Racine and the 50th AHL and pro game for Brickley.
LINEUP NOTES
Corban Knight replaced Bobby Butler on the Rampage's top line, centering Garrett Wilson and Brett Olson. Butler missed the game to be with his wife, who delivered the couple's first child on Tuesday night.
