February 3, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release

Two third period goals and a shootout-winning tally from Joey Hishon helped the Lake Erie Monsters (20-16-4-3) to a 3-2 comeback victory in a shootout over the Milwaukee Admirals (25-13-2-4) Tuesday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Ben Street scored shorthanded for the Monsters, and Paul Carey scored a power play goal. Colin Smith notched a pair of assists for the Monsters, who have played into overtime in four straight games. The Monsters conclude their three-game road trip with five of six possible points, and now head home to take on Toronto Friday at 7:30 p.m.

In a scoreless first period, Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard stopped all 13 shots he saw in net, while Magnus Hellberg stopped 10 of 10 Monsters shots in the Milwaukee net.

The game remained scoreless until 4:06 remained in the second period. Triston Grant netted a rebound from a Taylor Aronson shot to give the Admirals a 1-0 lead at the 15:54 mark, and at the 19:19 mark, Colton Sissons extended the Admirals lead to 2-0. Sissons found a loose puck at the inside edge of the left circle and snapped it top-shelf for the Admirals second goal, but the third period belonged to the Monsters.

On a shorthanded two-on-one rush, Smith found Street streaking to the front of the net, and Street sent a shot over the shoulder of Hellberg to put the Monsters on the board at 3:55 of the third period. The goal was the third of the season for Street, and his second in as many games. With the Monsters on a power play at 14:13 of the third period, Smith again set up a teammate. On the second Monsters goal, Smith made a backdoor feed to Carey, who wasted no time depositing the puck into an empty half of the net before Hellberg could react. The goal was Carey's 12th of the season, tying him for the Monsters team lead. Markus Lauridsen also assisted on the second Monsters goal.

With no further scoring in regulation, overtime was necessary. The Monsters outshot Milwaukee 4-1 in the overtime frame, but were unable to convert. In the shootout portion, Pickard was perfect in facing three Milwaukee shooters. With the shootout scoreless into the bottom half of the third round, Joey Hishon netted the shootout winner for the Monsters, securing a 3-2 victory.

Pickard stopped 26 of 28 shots and is 10-6-4 on the season. Hellberg stopped 33 of 35 shots and is now 12-5-3.

The Monsters host Toronto at The Q Friday at 7:30 p.m. Friday's game can be heard live on ESPN 850 WKNR.
