SAN ANTONIO (September 27, 2011) - The San Antonio Rampage and The UPS Stores of Greater San Antonio have joined forces for the 2011-12 season to help improve literacy in the San Antonio community through a month-long book drive and season-long reading program titled "Stick with Reading".

"We look forward to our partnership with The UPS Store to help advance child literacy in the San Antonio community," said Rampage Director of Business Ryan Snider. "This initiative is important to the Rampage and we are happy to join forces with The UPS Store to provide local children with books and encourage reading in the local community."

The UPS Store locations will collect new and gently used children's books to benefit local children in need from Oct. 8 to Nov. 5. In addition, the Rampage will host two book drives at their games on Oct. 29 and Nov. 5. Any customer that drops off a new or gently used book will receive a free Rampage/The UPS Store bookmark and a complimentary ticket to any Rampage home game scheduled between Oct. 15 and Nov. 15. The book drive is part of the Toys for Tots Literacy Program, an initiative that seeks to place books directly into the hands of less fortunate children. The UPS Store will donate all books collected during the drive to local schools and charitable organizations for distribution.

"According to the 'Handbook of Early Literacy Research,' in low-income neighborhoods, the ratio of books per child is one age-appropriate book for every 300 children," said Adam Moskowitz, area operations manager for The UPS Store. "With this book drive, we will be able to provide the Greater San Antonio Area children with the gift of a book that can help them succeed now and in the future."

"We hope residents will help support this program," added Moskowitz. "Every donation helps buy a book and can help make a difference in the life of a child living in our community."

While new children's books for all ages are needed, The UPS Store will also offer customers the opportunity make a cash donation, which will be used to purchase additional books. Customers can donate books and monetary donations at their nearest The UPS Store location. Through the Toys for Tots Literacy Program, every donation helps the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation buy a book for a deserving child. The Rampage have initiated their "Stick with Reading" program, brought to you by The UPS Store, which is designed to reward classes that have met their reading goals and to encourage students to spend more time reading. Teachers have the opportunity to nominate their class to win a Rampage player visit. The program is eligible for grades 1st-5th and selected classrooms will enjoy a visit from a Rampage player who will read a hockey-themed book to the classroom. Students will receive Rampage goodie bags and have an opportunity to try on hockey equipment, get player autographs and take a classroom photo with the player.
