Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons continued their 2011 training camp on Tuesday morning at the MassMutual Center as they prepare for their preseason opener on Wednesday night against the Connecticut Whale. Game time is 7 pm and tickets are on sale at the MassMutual Center Box Office.

"We get right into game action, give us a good chance to evaluate the players in camp," said Falcons head coach Rob Riley. "The players are obviously eager to play, guys are here to make an impression and we are looking forward to getting into game action and see how things work out."

The Falcons had 21 players skate on Tuesday, 11 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders. The Falcons are expecting to dress 18 skaters and two goaltenders for their game on Wednesday against Connecticut with one player getting the night off from game action on Wednesday.

"We will go with 11 forwards and seven defensemen on Wednesday for the game," said Riley. "We have had a couple good practices here, guys have worked hard and I am sure that will continue against Connecticut."

The one player who may get the night off against the Whale is returning defenseman Brent Regner. Regner played in 56 games for the Falcons last year and is entering his third professional/AHL season. Regner was very versatile for the Falcons last year seeing time at both forward and defense.

"Brent (Regner) has some seniority and was a solid player for us last year," said Riley. "Obviously there will be a lot of roster movement heading into the weekend, just part of training camp."

Part of the roster movement actually started today. The Falcons' NHL affiliate, the Columbus Blue Jackets, trimmed their roster by seven players on Tuesday. Defenseman Cody Goloubef and goaltender Allen York were assigned to the Falcons, while forwards Cody Bass, Dane Byers, Nick Drazenovic and Andrew Joudrey were placed on waivers for the purposes of being assigned to Springfield. In addition, goaltender Paul Dainton was released from his tryout contract (has AHL contract with Springfield) and will report to Falcons' camp.
