Ramos Delivers 6-5 Nuts Victory

Modesto, CA. - Roberto Ramos capped the Modesto Nuts ninth-inning comeback with a walk-off single to beat the Stockton Ports 6-5 at John Thurman Field on Sunday afternoon.

After the Ports (5-5) had plated two runs in the top of the ninth, Ben Bracewell (L, 0-1) came on to try and close it out. Luis Jean hustled out a leadoff double in the bottom of the ninth for the Nuts (4-5). After Shane Hoelscher was hit by a pitch, Joe Bennie committed an error at second to load the bases. Collin Ferguson followed and crushed a two-run double to left to tie the game. Ramos, next to the plate, flared a walk-of RBI single into shallow right to give the Nuts the win and a four-game series split.

In the top of the ninth, the Ports cashed in two walks to take a brief lead against Nuts reliever Helmis Rodriguez before Luis Niebla (W, 1-0) limited the damage and recorded the final three outs of the inning.

Dom Nunez went 2-for-5 with a RBI and scored the game-winning run. Ramos finished 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI and a walk.

Ryan Castellani started for the Nuts and worked 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. The righty walked four but struck out six.

Ports starter Zack Erwin tossed six innings and allowed just one run on seven hits while striking out two and walking a pair.
