Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA - A week after Rancho Cucamonga watched Lake Elsinore take three of four on their home field, the Quakes returned the favor at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore. Quakes' starter Trevor Oaks dominated over eight innings, as Rancho downed the Storm on Sunday by a final of 6-2, giving the Quakes three of four in the series and a share of first place in the South Division.
Oaks (1-1) recorded a Quakes' season-high ten strikeouts, allowing just one run on five hits over a season-best eight innings, in earning his first victory of the year. At one point, the right-hander retired 17 consecutive hitters.
Johan Mieses homered and had a pair of hits, while Yusniel Diaz drove in a career-best four runs in the win.
Mieses connected for his second of the year in the second inning, as he took former big-leaguer Brandon Morrow (0-1) deep to right-center field, putting Rancho up 1-0.
The game remained a one-run affair until the sixth, when Rancho exploded for four, keyed by a bases-loaded triple from Diaz, giving the Quakes a 5-0 advantage.
The teams traded runs in the eighth, as the Quakes got a sac fly from Diaz to complete his four-RBI day, making it 6-0.
Oaks was touched for his one and only run in the bottom of the inning, as Trae Santos led off with a triple, then scored on a one-out single by Chase Jensen, rounding out the scoring at 6-1.
Karch Kowalczyk took over for Oaks in the ninth, allowing a solo homer to Javier Guerra to make it 6-2 and round out the scoring.
Rancho (7-4) will continue their seven-game road trip on Monday in Lancaster, as they take on the JetHawks for game one of a three-game series. Grant Holmes (1-0) will take on JetHawks right-hander Brock Dykxhoorn (1-0) in the opener at 6:35pm.
The Quakes return to LoanMart Field on Thursday, April 21st, as they host the Visalia Rawhide in game one of a four-game home stand. Thursday will be another Thirsty Thursday, thanks to Green-Lite Windows and Doors, as fans will enjoy $2 Pepsi products, $3 domestic drafts and $4 premium drafts throughout the night.
