Ramirez Knocks In Four For The Vipers

Led by Julio Ramirez's four runs batted in the Calgary Vipers defeated the Victoria Seals 6-5 at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria, British Columbia. Ramirez knocked in the night's first run and with the game tied in the fifth inning he blasted his team leading eighth home run of the season for three more RBI and to put the Vipers ahead for good. With the victory the Vipers improve to 20-8 on the Golden Baseball League season and remain two games behind the Chico Outlaws for first place in the North Division.

Dusty Gober (4-0) recorded the victory by tossing seven innings and allowing four runs while Claudio Galva (7) picked up his league leading seventh save by throwing a scoreless and hitless ninth inning.

Calgary got the scoring started right away in the top of the first inning as Guillermo Reyes and Brent Metheny singled, Julio Ramirez doubled in one run, and Drew Miller grounded out to score another tally for a 2-0 lead.

Victoria responded in the fourth frame with singles from Mike Mooney and Brian Rios followed by a three-run shot from Josh Arhart for a 3-2 advantage.

Right back answered the Vipers in the next half inning when pitcher Gober walked, Reyes doubled, Jorge Mejia grounded out for a run batted to tie the game, Metheny reached on an error, and Ramirez smacked a three-run big fly for a 6-3 lead.

The Seals got a run back in the seventh for a 6-4 score as Chris Van Rossum walked, stole second base, and scored on a Dale Swinford RBI single.

Another run was scored by Victoria in the eighth frame when Rios singled, stole second base, and scored on a Charlie Strandlund RBI base hit for a 6-5 game.

The Vipers conclude their season's longest road trip which sees the team play ten games in 11 days in Victoria against the Seals on Thursday June 24th at 8:00 PM MDT.

The Vipers return home to Calgary and Foothills Stadium on Friday June 25th at 7:05 PM MDT against the Victoria Seals. On Saturday June 26th the two teams will play a double-header starting at 1:35 PM MDT and it will be Kid's Day at the ballpark where the Inflatamaniacs will perform along with Clowns and Magicians.

On Tuesday June 29th and Wednesday June 30th at 7:05 PM MDT the Vipers will host the Edmonton Capitals for a two-game series. It will be Toonie Tuesday on the 29th and after the game on the 30th the Vipers will host a Canada Day Fireworks Spectacular.
