Edmonton Capitals News Release
Chico, CA - The Edmonton Capitals are back on the winning track. They avoided the series sweep and took a valuable two points in the standings from the division leading Chico Outlaws with a 10 - 2 victory Thursday night. The Caps faced 18 year old knuckleball pitcher Eri Yoshida who made headlines earlier this summer becoming the first female pitcher to play professionally in over 10 years. Edmonton managed three runs on three hits and drew three walks in her five innings of work. The recent high school graduate from Japan has pitched a total of twelve innings so far with an ERA of 6.43.
She loaded the bases in the fourth inning with a couple walks and a hit batsman before Steve Brown notched an RBI single driving home Jorge Cortes. In the next inning, Tom Collaro belted a double that scored Cortes to give Edmonton a 3 - 1 cushion. Collaro picked up a couple of more RBI in the eighth inning when Edmonton blew open the game with six runs. Cliff Brumbaugh launched a three-run home run to put the game away for good.
Edmonton's record improves to 15 - 14 as they snap out of a three game losing skid. Next up this road trip will be a three game series against the St. George RoadRunners.
Don't forget to keep the Edmonton Capitals in mind when you're planning your Canada Day celebrations. The next home game for the Caps will be an all-Canadian matchup against the Calgary Vipers on July 1st at TELUS Field. Stay after the game for a great seat to watch the City of Edmonton's fireworks show. It also happens to be a 4 for $44 Thursday where you can get 4 reserved grandstand tickets, 4 hot dogs and 4 Pepsi for just $44.
