Yuma Scorpions News Release

The Yuma Scorpions used a strong start from Gilbert De La Vara and three homeruns en route to a 11-0 win over the Orange County Flyers at Estadio Revolucion in San Luis, Rio Colorado, Mexico, on Wednesday night. De La Vara gave up just two hits in seven scoreless innings to earn the win for the Scorpions.

Catcher Franklen Lopez popped a three-run homerun in the fifth inning, putting Yuma up 8-0 and helping to chase Flyers starter Brett Smith from the game.

Smith (0-3) took the loss, giving up eight runs (six earned) on eight hits while striking out three and walking one batter in 4 2/3 innings. Relievers Jake Renshaw and Jamie Niley each gave up unearned runs in an inning pitched. Renshaw struck out the first three batters he faced. Bryan Harris pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning, striking out all three batters he faced.

Orange County and Yuma (17-11) will play the final game of this four-game series in Estadio Revolucion tonight with first pitch at 7:30pm Pacific. Orange County returns home for two days against the Chico Outlaws on Friday and a Saturday doubleheader.
