Frederick Keys News Release

Trailing by four runs entering the sixth inning, the Keys rallied but stranded the potential tying runners on base in a 6-4 loss in its first ever game at the brand new BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem, NC Tuesday night.

Frederick received two-out RBI-singles from 3B Bobby Stevens and C Brian Ward to cut the Dash lead to 5-3 in the sixth inning. Later, down 6-3, 1B Joe Mahoney launched his third home run in his last five games, a soaring solo shot to right field bringing the Keys within 6-4. The blast was the fourth of the season for Mahoney.

But the Keys (11-7) could not crawl any closer.

In the ninth inning, LF Kyle Hudson worked a one-out walk which was followed by a single to right field by RF Ronnie Welty. The Keys could not put the finishing touches on the rally as Mahoney struck out and 2B LJ Hoes grounded out to end the threat.

Winston-Salem grabbed the lead with persistent pressure on Keys starter Nate Nery (0-2). The Dash scored a run in three consecutive innings before solo home runs from C Jason Bour and DH Ozzie Lewis forced Nery from the game with the Keys trailing 5-1.

The Dash piled up 14 hits, four of which from 3B Jon Gilmore.

The series continues Wednesday, April 28th with Cole McCurry on the hill for Frederick. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. with The UPS Store Pre-Game Show beginning at 6:40 p.m. on The Keys Baseball Network.

Frederick returns home for Kids Eat Free Monday, Monday May 3rd at 7:00 p.m. as Frederick hosts Winston-Salem. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
