Dash Open Up Long Stretch with 6-4 Win

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (APRIL 27, 2010) - Jon Gilmore cracked four of the Dash's 14 hits as Winston-Salem bruised Frederick pitching en route to a 6-4 victory on Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark. Winston won its second-straight game and took the first of a three-game series. The contest marked the beginning of a stretch in which the Dash will play 27 games in 27 days.

Frederick took the lead in the first inning against Winston starter Charlie Leesman (3-1). Kyle Hudson walked and stole second base, then scored on Ronnie Welty's RBI single to make it 1-0 Frederick (11-7).

After stranding two men in the bottom of the first, the Dash (13-5) cracked the scoreboard in the second against Keys starter Nate Nery (0-2). After a walk to Kenny Williams, Jr., Ozzie Lewis doubled to put men on second and third. Two batters later, Justin Green drove in Williams with an infield single to tie the game.

Winston-Salem added single runs in the third and fourth to take a 3-1 lead. Williams drove in Gilmore in the third when a grounder that got past Keys third baseman Bobby Stevens for an error to give the Dash its first lead. Brandon Short extended the advantage with and RBI single in the fourth inning.

The Dash added two more in the fifth off solo home runs from Jason Bour and Ozzie Lewis to go ahead 5-1.

Frederick tightened up the game in the sixth inning against a tiring Leesman. With two on and two out, Stevens lined an RBI single to center to cut the deficit to 5-2 and chase Leesman from the game. Dan Remenowsky allowed an inherited runner to score on Brian Ward's RBI single to make it a two-run game.

Winston-Salem got one of those runs back in the seventh when Drew Garcia reached on an error and scored on Justin Greene's RBI triple to put the Dash up 6-3.

The Keys scored their final run on a solo home run by Joe Mahoney in the eighth off Hector Santiago.

Gregory Infante worked around a walk and a single to pitch a scoreless ninth for his second save in as many games.

Leesman had his best outing of the season, striking out eight batters while allowing five hits and three runs over 5.2 innings to pick up his third win.

Nery was charged with the loss after surrendering five runs on 11 hits in 4.1 innings.

Jon Gilmore was the individual offensive star for the Dash, going 4 for 5 with a run scored. He singled in his first four at bats and tied a career high for hits in a game.

Greene, playing in his first game back from getting hit in the head with a pitch on Sunday, went 3 for 3 with two RBI, a double, a triple, a walk, and a stolen base.

Winston-Salem looks to win the three-game series on Wednesday night when RHP Nevin Griffith (3-0, 0.90) opposes Keys LHP Cole McCurry (1-0, 1.93). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com.
