THE HILLCATS: On Sunday the Hillcats lost 6-4 in walk-off fashion in the deciding game of a three-game series at Potomac...Lynchburg is now 3-7 on their current stretch of 13 in a row on the road...Tonight is the first game of a three-game series at Kinston and game 11 of the longest set of consecutive road games in 2010...
VS. KINSTON: The Hillcats went 10-10 versus the Indians in 2009 and were 6-4 at Grainger Stadium...After starting 8-4 against the K-Tribe, the Cats lost six of the final eight games between the two...Lynchburg is 148-147 all-time against the Indians and 66-83 in Kinston...
IT'S A MARATHON, NOT A SPRINT: With their win last Friday night the Hillcats are now 3-0 in road series openers and 4-1 in game one of series thus far this season...Unfortunately, with their loss on Sunday they are 0-7 in road games that have followed the opener that and 2-10 overall after the first game of the set...Lynchburg is now 0-5 in series finales and 0-3 in rubber matches...
BAD OMEN? Lynchburg scored first in all three games at Potomac, yet they only came away with one win...This season the Hillcats are just 5-4 when scoring first...They have blown six leads through 17 games and have come from behind to win just once...
HANDS ON APPROACH: Hillcats Manager Pat Kelly elected to bring in a fifth infielder in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday with the bases loaded and one out...The move worked to perfection as the Nationals knocked into a 4-2-3 double play to end the inning and the threat...On Saturday he gave C Devin Mesoraco the green light with a 3-0 count in a tie game in the top of the eighth inning and he smacked a solo home run to give the Green & Gold a one-run lead...
TONE SETTER: OF Josh Fellhauer went 1-for-4 on Sunday to extend his hitting streak to a season-high seven games...Over that time he is batting .370 (10-for-27) over that time with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and six runs scored...He has led off two games on this road swing with a home run...
ALL FOR NAUGHT: C Devin Mesoraco hit the Hillcats first three-run home run of the season in the sixth inning on Sunday to tie the game at four a piece...Lynchburg would eventually fall in extra-innings 6-4...On Saturday the Cats catcher hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning only to have that lead go to waste in a 4-3 loss to the Nationals...Mesoraco leads the team with four home runs and 11 RBI and he is tied for fourth in the Carolina League in long balls...
CATCHING ON: On Sunday UTIL Neftali Soto played his third game this season and in his professional career catching...In those three games he has one error, no passed balls and is 0-for-2 in throwing out potential base thieves...Soto also showed signs of life with the bat, going 4-for-14 (.286) with two doubles, two RBI, a run scored and two multi-hit performances...He came into the series with just one extra-base hit and two multi-hit games...
SO HIGH, SO LOW: INF Miguel Rojas went 0-for-4 on Saturday night and is now hit less in his last 18 at-bats...Prior to that he went through a stretch in which he went 8-for-12...Coming into the doubleheader at Salem on Wednesday Rojas was third in the Carolina League with a .393 clip...In five games his averaged has dropped to .256...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Alex White was selected by th Indians in the first round (15th overall) of the 2009 draft out of the University of North Carolina...In 2008 and his sophomore season he went 1- with a 2.83 ERA in 20 games (15 starts) and was named the ACC Pitcher of the Year...His final year and junior season with the Tar Heels he went 8-4 with a 3.87 ERA in 16 starts...White was named to the ACC First Team twice, including his junior season...Entering the draft he was ranked as the sixth best prospect (4th best pitcher) by Baseball America...He made his professional debut this season with Advanced-A Kinston and has gone 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA in three starts thus far...Tonight will be his first appearance against Lynchburg...White entered the season as the ninth ranked prospect in the Indians minor league system according to Baseball America...
