Rainiers Walk but Can't Run Against Dodgers

Tacoma, Wash. - The Oklahoma City Dodgers pitched their second consecutive shutout Wednesday night, holding the Tacoma Rainiers to three hits in a 3-0 victory at Cheney Stadium.

The Dodgers (59-47) kept Tacoma off the scoreboard despite allowing a season-high 10 walks. With the addition of one hit batter, the Rainiers (53-55) had a total of 14 runners reach base, but the Dodgers stranded each and every one of them. The pitching staff notched 12 strikeouts and held Tacoma 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Wednesday was the Dodgers' seventh shutout of the season, and the three hits allowed tied the team's season low. Starting pitcher Brock Stewart only lasted four innings due to a high pitch count, as he allowed two singles with a season-high four walks and four strikeouts.

Five relievers followed Stewart to complete the final five innings, allowing just one hit. In his first game with the team this season, Stetson Allie (1-0) earned the win after going one-plus inning with two strikeouts. Brian Schlitter finished things out in the ninth inning to earn his 16th save. Joe Broussard, Edward Paredes and Pat Venditte each contributed to the shutout.

The Dodgers were able to start the scoring right away. Tim Locastro led off the game with a double and later scored on a two-out RBI single by Edwin RÃ-os.

Kyle Farmer padded the lead in the sixth inning when he connected on a solo homer out to left field. His sixth dinger of the season made it 2-0.

Leading off the next inning, Kyle Garlick hit a line drive solo home run to left field, pushing in the lead to 3-0. It was Garlick's team-leading 15th home run with OKC, as well as his 20th overall of the 2018 season.

In both the first and sixth innings, each of the first two Tacoma batters walked, but both were left on base in each instance. In the seventh, Paredes issued three straight walks to load the bases with two outs. Venditte then entered the game and struck out Andrew Aplin to keep the three-run lead intact.

The Dodgers left the bases loaded in both the eighth and ninth innings. OKC went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position on the night and left 10 runners on base.

After a one-out double by Daniel Vogelbach brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning, Schlitter got David Freitas to line out to shallow right field and ended the game with a strikeout of Aplin.

The Dodgers outhit the Rainiers, 10-3. Farmer, Garlick and Solano each had two hits. The Dodgers collected five extra-base hits, compared to just one by Tacoma.

Rainiers starting pitcher Ross Detwiler was solid over six innings in the loss. Detwiler (2-5) allowed two runs and six hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.
