
Aces, Vargas Continue Streaks in Game One vs. Colorado Springs

Reno, NEV. - In the series opener between the Aces and Sky Sox, Reno won by a score of 10-9. Reno was led offensively by Christain Walker who went 2-for-3 with his 20th double of the season and two RBI. Ildemaro Vargas extend his current hit streak to 27 games on an infield single in the bottom of the third inning. Vargas would end the night 2-for-5 with two singles and is batting .383, (46-for-120), with 20 runs scored, 10 doubles, 11 RBI during the streak. Starting pitcher Alex Young went 7.0 strong inning, striking out seven Colorado Springs batters and allowed seven hits. The win improves the Aces to a record of 56-53 and 7.0 games behind the first place Fresno Grizzlies.
Colorado Springs wasted no time jumping out to an early 1-0 lead courtesy of a Nate Orf RBI single to right field in the first inning. Orf pushed the Sky Sox lead to two when he doubled to left field in the top of the third. In the bottom of the inning, Reno batted around while plating six runs, five of which came off a pair of RBI doubles from Walker and Juniel Querecuto. Catcher Christian Bethancourt and left fielder Rymer Liriano for Colorado Springs crushed a pair of solo home runs to cut the Aces lead to 6-4. Reno blew the game wide open in the fifth when they plated four runs to give the Aces a 10-4 advantage. The Sky Sox chipped away at the Aces lead and came within one run on a Jett Bandy grand slam in the top of the eighth. Jake Barrett stopped the bleeding going 1.2 innings out of the bullpen to pick up his fifth save on the season and give Reno the 10-9 victory. Reno has won six consecutive games, tying their longest win streak of the season.
