FRESNO, Calif. - The Tacoma Rainiers (10-10) fell late to the Fresno Grizzlies (15-6), 4-3, on Thursday night at Chukchansi Park.

Center fielder Ian Miller (2x5), right fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis (2x4, R, 2B), and third baseman Danny Muno (2x3, RBI, BB) all collected multiple hits. Left fielder Jayson Werth collected his first base knock with the Rainiers, a one-out double in the second inning.

Fresno opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead. However, the Rainiers would quickly respond with two runs of their own in the top of the third to tie the game at 2-2. Mike Marjama got Tacoma on the board with a sacrifice fly to center, and Danny Muno provided the equalizer with an RBI single to right.

After the Grizzlies scored once in the fifth to take a one-run lead the Rainiers answered quickly once again - a fielding error in the top of the sixth evened the contest again at 3-3.

The back-and-forth battle ended when Fresno scored the winning run on a pair of doubles in the bottom of the eighth inning. Tacoma couldn't mount a comeback in the ninth and fell, 4-3.

Tacoma starting pitcher Christian Bergman allowed three runs on five hits while walking three and striking out five in 5.1 innings. He tossed 94 pitches, 59 of which were strikes, and did not factor into the decision.

Dario Alvarez (0.2 IP) and Erik Goeddel (0.2 IP) both posted scoreless relief outings for Tacoma. Ryan Cook (0-1) allowed one run on one hit and took the loss.

Rainiers right-hander Casey Lawrence (1-1, 3.00) and Grizzlies southpaw Kent Emanuel (2-0, 1.08) continue the series on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. PT.
