Rainiers Fall To Chihuahuas, 11-6

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (23-23) fell to the El Paso Chihuahuas (23-23) by a final score of 11-6 Tuesday night at Cheney Stadium.

First baseman Cameron Perkins (3x4, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, 2B), center fielder Taylor Motter (2x4, 2 RBI) and third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean (1x3, R, BB, 2B) powered the Tacoma offense.

Rainiers starter Roenis Elias (1-4) allowed six earned runs across four innings pitched Tuesday night while striking out six and walking just two.

The Rainiers got on the board right away during the bottom half of the first when Motter singled to center and scored Perkins to make it 1-0.

El Paso answered with a five run, four hit top of the second to take a 5-1 lead -- but it didn't last long.

An RBI-single from left fielder Ian Miller and a triple from Perkins pulled a pair of runs back for the Rainiers to make it 5-2 in the bottom of the second. Outfielder Jayson Werth then doubled to center field to score Perkins and Motter notched his second RBI-single to score Werth and tie the game at 5-5.

Home runs in the fifth and sixth from the Chihuahuas gave El Paso a 10-5 advantage. An RBI-groundout from Austin Hedges in the top of the ninth then extended the visitors' lead to 11-5.

Tacoma pulled a run back in the bottom of the ninth when Perkins grounded out to score Miller and make it 11-6.

The Rainiers and Chihuahuas return to Cheney Stadium Wednesday morning at 11:35 a.m. for game three of the four-game series. Southpaw Ariel Miranda (4-0, 4.21) will get the start for Tacoma as righty Jesse Scholtens (0-1, 5.91) will be on the bump for El Paso.
