Reno Aces News Release

Today's Game: The Aces look to rebound from a heartbreaking walk-off defeat Tuesday night with RHP Taylor Clarke on the mound. Clarke Enters today's contest in search of his fifth win of the season and is riding a two-game winning streak. Reno has won three of their last four against the Grizzlies and have two games left of the 2018 schedule against the division foe.

About Last Night: It was a night to forget for Nevada Alum Braden Shipley and the Aces. With a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Fresno Grizzlies rallied and Alejandro Garcia drove in a walk-off single to defeat the Aces, 4-3. Kris Medlen tossed 5.0 innings and allowed two runs on five hits to start the game. Offensively, the Aces tallied just four hits, two of which were home runs. Kevin Cron (2) and Anthony Recker (7) each hit home runs off Fresno starter Rogelio Armenteros, but could not provide enough insurance for the Reno pitching staff.

Bullpen Ship: Braden Shipley made his Triple-A debut out of the bullpen last night in Fresno. The Nevada alum has come out of the bullpen once in his professional career prior to last night, August 26, 2015 in Double-A. In his 131 professional games, Shipley has made 129 career starts and pitched 7.0 innings out of the bullpen.

Back to Brito: The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled OF Sócrates Brito and placed OF Steven Souza Jr. (strained right pectoral) on the 10-day disabled list yesterday afternoon. Brito, 25, hit .323 (51-for-158) with 8 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 21 RBI, 25 runs scored and 7 stolen bases in 42 games with the Aces in 2018. He batted .368 (43-for-117) vs. right-handers and .432 (16-for-37) with runners in scoring position, and played 25 games in center field (25 starts), 10 in left (6) and 9 in right (8).

F Cancer: On this date in 2008, six weeks after his successful thyroid cancer surgery, Diamondback hurler Doug Davis allows just one run over seven innings in an 11-1 win over the Braves at Turner Field. The 32 year-old southpaw joins Red Sox starter Jon Lester, who threw a no-hitter earlier in the week, to serve as an inspiration for cancer patients and their families. Davis appeared in two games that season for the Tuscan Sidewinders with a record of 1-1 and 3.72 ERA.

If this, then that: With last night's 4-3 loss, the Aces are now 6-6 in one-run contests in 2018. Last season, Reno went 20-13 (.606) in one-run contests - second best in the Pacific Coast League. Last night was just the Aces second loss of the season when leading after 8 innings (18-2).

1-for-3: Anthony Recker posed a .333 batting average in the Month of April (13-for-39) with 4 2B and 3 HR in 13 games played. The veteran catcher has kept up-to-pace in the Month of May. Recker is currently batting .333 (8-for-24) with 4 home runs and 12 RBI.
