El Paso Chihuahuas News Release
The El Paso Chihuahuas defeated the Tacoma Rainiers 11-6 Tuesday night to take their second consecutive game. The Chihuahuas had 15 hits in the victory.
El Paso sent nine batters to the plate and scored five times, all with two outs, in the second inning. After the Rainiers tied the game 5-5, designated hitter Austin Hedges hit a three-run home run in the fifth to break the tie. Brett Nicholas hit a two-run homer one inning later to add to El Paso's lead. Nicholas went 4-for-5 with three RBIs. El Paso has 71 home runs this season, the second-most in all of Minor League Baseball.
Chihuahuas reliever T.J. Weir tossed 3.1 scoreless innings in his longest outing of the year. Carlos Asuaje went 2-for-5 with a double in his first game since being optioned by the Padres. The Chihuahuas bullpen has not allowed any earned runs in the first two games of the series. There were three pace-of-play violations called Tuesday, leading to an automatic ball or automatic strike each time.
