Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers came up short in a 3-1 loss to Colorado Springs at Cheney Stadium on Saturday.

Sky Sox second baseman Eric Young broke up what had been a 1-1 tie when he scored from second off a single from Matt Miller in the top of the third inning. Designated hitter Mike Paulk then upped the Sky Sox lead to two runs after delivering an RBI-single two batters later that added to a lead Tacoma was never able to overcome.

Rainiers first baseman Mike Carp produced the team's only run in the first with a sacrifice fly, while outfielder Ezequiel Carrera led the team after collecting his first three hits of the year.

Earning the win for Colorado Springs was reliever Edgmer Escolona, who entered the game in the fifth and put together a hitless performance through 1.1 innings of work. Closer Juan Rincon gave up one hit and struck out one to earn his second save in the last three games.

Tacoma starter Steven Shell was dealt the loss in his first start of the season. The right-hander gave up all three Sky Sox runs in a five-inning effort, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Colorado Springs starter Tim Redding went four innings in his 2010 debut and allowed just one run on five hits with three strikeouts in a no decision.

The Rainiers close out their four-game series with the Sky Sox tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 P.M. when they send left-hander Chris Seddon to the mound against Colorado Springs starter Chaz Roe.
