Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers enlisted the help of some power hitting to beat Colorado Springs 4-3 at Cheney Stadium on Sunday.
Designated hitter Brad Nelson, making his first start of the season, belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth that put Tacoma on top for good and evened the Rainiers four-game series with the Sky Sox at two games apiece.
Tacoma found themselves in a good situation early after taking a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to outfielder Greg Halman's triple and an RBI-single from first baseman Mike Carp. But the lead did not last long, as the Sky Sox answered back with a trio of runs over the second and third innings to go up 3-2 until Nelson's long ball two innings later.
Starter Chris Seddon earned the win for Tacoma after holding the Sky Sox to three runs, two earned, on six hits through 5.1 innings of work in his 2010 debut. Right-handed reliever Chad Cordero made his way out of the bullpen and put together a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth to notch the Rainiers first save.
Colorado Springs right-hander Chaz Roe was tagged with the loss after giving up four runs on nine hits with five strikeouts in a five-inning effort.
The Rainiers return to the field tomorrow night at 7:00 P.M. when they open up a four game series with the Sacramento River Cats at Cheney Stadium.
