Round Rock Express News Release
METAIRIE, La. - Jason Lane and Scott Cousins each collected three hits and two RBI to spearhead a 16-hit attack as the New Orleans Zephyrs doubled-up the Round Rock Express 10-5 in Sunday's series finale at Zephyr Field. New Orleans won the season-opening series three games to one with the victory.
Logan Morrison and Cousins each had RBI singles in a two-run first for New Orleans (3-1) as the Zephyrs led wire-to-wire. Bryan Petersen ripped an RBI single in the second, and Cousins added another RBI single in the fourth. Round Rock (1-3) got on the board in the fourth thanks to a New Orleans error, but the Zephyrs answered with a run on three hits in the fifth.
Round Rock tied the game at 5-5 thanks to a four-run sixth. Michael Garciaparra started the rally with an RBI groundout, and Collin DeLome followed with a pinch-hit RBI single. Edwin Maysonet capped the frame with a two-out, two-run single. However, New Orleans quickly answered with two runs on three hits and an Express error in the bottom of the inning. A three-run eighth gave the Zephyrs late-inning insurance.
Taylor Tankersley (1-0), the second of three relievers on the day for New Orleans, took the win. He allowed no runs on one hit with two strikeouts over 1.1 innings. Kasey Olenberger worked 2.0 scoreless innings on one hit with two strikeouts to record his first save of the season. Zephyr starter Hunter Jones allowed only one unearned run on one hit and five walks with three strikeouts over 5.0 innings.
Express reliever Roy Corcoran (0-2) was saddled with the loss; he allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and no walks with four strikeouts over 2.0 innings. Starter Shane Loux was touched for five runs, four earned, on 11 hits and a walk with two strikeouts over 5.0 innings.
Maysonet, who was 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI, had the lone multiple-hit game for the Express, which managed only six hits on the day but drew seven walks. Six Zephyrs had multiple-hit games, including each of the first five batters in the order.
Round Rock stays on the road, opening a four-game series Monday at Oklahoma City. First pitch between the Express and RedHawks is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Southpaw Wesley Wright (0-0, 0.00) is scheduled to start for the Express, while the RedHawks counter with lefty Michael Ballard (0-0, 0.00).
