Tacoma Rainiers News Release
RENO, Nev. - The Rainiers 14-game losing streak at Reno came to a close after Tacoma topped the Aces 9-5 at Aces Ballpark on Saturday night.
Eric Thames led the Rainiers on offense, going 2-for-4 and driving in four runs. The outfielder gave Tacoma a 3-2 edge over the Aces after delivering a two-run home run in the second inning - his sixth of the season and first since May 2. He drove in two more runs with a two-out single in the third.
Outfielders Carlos Peguero and Franklin Gutierrez each produced a pair of RBI in the contest. Peguero tallied run-scoring singles in the first and third innings, and Gutierrez hit the first home run of his MLB rehab assignment with the Rainiers after belting a two-run blast in the eighth.
As a team, the Tacoma lineup combined to collect 12 hits against Reno. Along with Thames and Peguero, infielders Nick Franklin and Jesus Montero each turned in two-hit efforts for the Rainiers. Franklin singled twice and Montero recorded both a double and triple.
Right-hander Blake Beavan (3-2) earned a third consecutive winning decision after holding the Aces to five runs on eight hits over 6.2 innings. Beavan struck out four Reno batters and walked one in his fifth start with the Rainiers this season.
Reliever Logan Bawcom surrendered just two hits and struck out one over 2.1 shutout innings on the way to collecting his team-leading seventh save of the season.
The Rainiers (30-20) play the third game of the club's four-game series at the Aces (19-31) at 1:05 p.m. tomorrow, May 26. Right-hander Hector Noesi (0-0, 10.80) is scheduled to make his second start of the season for Tacoma in the contest against Reno's right-hander Charles Brewer (2-4, 4.85).
