Sacramento River Cats News Release
TUCSON, Ariz. - Scott Moore's eighth-inning three-run homer forced extra innings, and the River Cats hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the top of the 12th inning to complete the comeback, defeating Tucson Saturday night at Kino Stadium, 7-4.
With Tucson leading 4-1 in the eighth, Scott Moore hit a three-run home run-the River Cats' first extra-base hit of the game-to tie the score at four and force extra innings. After a pair of scoreless extra frames, the Cats offense exploded for back-to-back-to-back solo home runs with two outs in the 12th to take a 7-4 lead they would not relinquish. Michael Choice, Moore and Jeremy Barfield delivered the blasts, completing the comeback and giving Sacramento its sixth-straight road win in dramatic fashion.
Travis Banwart started for the River Cats, surrendering four runs-three earned-in 5.2 innings. But the story of the game was the River Cats bullpen, which went 6.1 innings without allowing a run. Paul Smyth, Evan Scribner, Dan Otero, and Brian Gordon combined to strike out three without walking a hitter, extending the bullpen's scoreless streak to 13 innings. Otero (1-0) earned the win and Gordon picked up the save.
The loss fell to Tucson reliever Brad Brach (1-1), who gave up all three 12th-inning homers.
Moore finished 5-for-6 with four RBIs, leading the River Cats' 16-hit, four-homer attack. Hiro Nakajima and Michael Choice both chipped in with three hits, combining to go 6-for-11 with three runs scored.
Sacramento and Tucson square off again Sunday evening Kino Stadium, with River Cats RHP Sonny Gray (4-2, 2.49 ERA) scheduled to face RHP Jorge Reyes (3-0, 2.86 ERA) at 7:05 p.m. PT.
The River Cats return home Tuesday, May 28, for a four-game set against the Salt Lake Bees. First pitch for Tuesday's series opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from Raley Field.
