Rain and Thunder get best of Dogs

(Portland, ME) - Trenton scored seven times in four of the first five innings, taking the opener of a twinbill from the Sea Dogs, 7-3, Saturday night at Hadlock Field. Game two was postponed due to rain, making Sunday a doubleheader in the two team's final regular season meeting this season.

Anthony Claggett (3-2) worked three innings on four hits and two runs to earn the win for Trenton. Kyle Jackson (5-3) was saddled with the loss, yielding 7 runs on six walks in 4.2 IP.

The Sea Dogs scored the game's final three runs off Claggett and Wilkins Arias. Zach Daeges went 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Aaron Bates had a run-scoring double and Argenis Diaz delivered an RBI singled during Portland's 2-run sixth.

Austin Jackson drove in two for Trenton with a double and a sac-fly and finished 2-for-3 (RS). Chris Malec gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. In the third, Jackson laced a run-scoring double and scored on a Colin Curtis single.

Jackson walked a team-high six, issuing lead-off walks in four of five innings. Cody Ehlers led off the fourth with a walk and Joe Muich singled. Reegie Corona drove in Ehlers with a single and Jackson had a sac-fly, giving Trenton a 5-0 lead. The Thunder scored twice in the fifth inning on Muich's sacrifice fly and a run-scoring single off T.J. Large (2.1 IP, 2 H, H, 4 SO).

Michael Gardner worked three scoreless innings in a spot start for Trenton, allowing one hit, three walks and two strikeouts.

Portland and Trenton begin their doubleheader at 1:00 PM on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field.
