Senators Sputter To 4-1 Loss To Akron

Akron, OH - The Harrisburg Senators' offense struggled again in a 4-1 defeat against the Akron Aeros, Saturday at Canal Park. The Senators tallied just five hits.

The Aeros scored a run in the 1st without a base hit. Jose Constanza was hit by a pitch and stole second and third base. Wes Hodges lifted a sacrifice fly to give Akron a 1-0 lead.

The Senators tied it in the top of the 3rd when Seth Bynum smashed a solo homer to right field to make it 1-1.

Akron manufactured another run in the bottom of the 3rd. Brandon Pinckney walked and a bunt moved him to second. A Josh Rodriguez single put runners at the corners and Hodges again hit a sacrifice fly to put the Aeros ahead, 2-1.

The Aeros put it away with a two-out rally in the 8th. Stephen Head laced a two-out double. A pair of walks loaded the bases. Damaso Espino cashed in with a two-run single to give Akron a 4-1 lead.

LHP Justin Jones worked seven innings, but took the loss to fall to 2-3. LHP Ryan Edell got the win for Akron, evening his record at 6-6. RHP Randy Newsom collected his 25th save despite allowing the tying run to come to the plate in the top of the 9th.

The Senators dropped to 62-51. Akron is now 68-46.

The Senators and Aeros finish the three-game series Sunday at 2:05 PM. RHP Zack Segovia (1-0, 6.75 ERA) goes to the mound for Harrisburg against Aeros RHP Kevin Dixon (8-7, 4.13 ERA).
