Railcats spoil X's Comeback

Gary, IN-----The Railcats scored one run in the bottom of the ninth inning as they defeated the Explorers in a wild game 12-11 here Monday.

It was the fifth one-run loss to Gary-Southshore this season and for the first time this year, in 20 games, the Explorers lost a game when they were leading after seven inning. Christian Guerrero's bases loaded single off Eddie Delacruz in the ninth broke the three-game winning streak of the Explorers. The win for Gary-Southshore came after an unbelievable comeback by the X's.

The Railcats had taken a 10-2 lead into the seventh inning and that's when the Explorers exploded. Sioux City sent 13 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs on 10-hits to take an 11-10 lead. The Explorers had back-to-back home runs in the seventh as Dustin Jones connected with a three-run home run to left and Wally Backman, Jr. followed with a solo home run to right. Later in the inning, a two-run single by Ryan Priddy gave the Explorers the one-run lead, but it wasn't enough.

The loss drops the Explorers to 4 1/2 games behind Gary-Southshore in the Central Division. The second game of the three-game series will be played Tuesday at Gary starting at 7:10pm.
