
Sox offense stumbles, falls to Diablos 5-2

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox offense couldn't get things going on Tuesday night as the El Paso Diablos offense did just enough to defeat the Sox 5-2 in front of 5,242 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.
Sox starter Justin Garcia (6-2) got the loss, allowing only four runs off 11 hits with seven strikeouts. Diablos starter Alex Kaminsky (2-1) got the win, allowing only six hits and two runs with six strikeouts. Jon Plefka got the save, allowing no runs off only two hits in two and two-thirds innings of relief.
The Sox took the lead in the first inning as Cyle Hankerd hit his seventh homerun down the left field line for a one-run lead. The Diablos tied the game in the fourth as Javier Brito singled and scored on a Maikol Gonzalez RBI triple for a 1-1 score.
Amarillo retook the lead in the fourth as Van Pope tripled and scored on a Tim Alberts RBI single. El Paso tied the game again in the fifth as Stephen Doulgas singled, went to second on an Albenis Machado single and scored on a Johan Garcia groundout for a 2-2 score.
The Diablos took their first lead in the seventh as Douglas tripled with two outs and scored on a Machado RBI single. They added another in the eighth as Javier Brito doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on an Alberto Espinosa RBI single for a 4-2 lead.
Following a ninth inning run scored by El Paso by Kory Drew, the Sox put two runners on base, but a game-ending double play ended the game with the Sox falling 5-2.
With the loss, the Sox fall to 28-28 while the Diablos improve to 16-40. Wednesday, Amarillo will take on El Paso for the final game of a three-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm.
