RailCats Sign Fontana, Release Adkins

GARY, IN - The Gary South Shore RailCats have signed LHP Chuck Fontana from the Las Vegas (NM) Train Robbers of the Pecos League. In a corresponding move, the RailCats released LHP James Adkins
Fontana was 2-2 in 21 games with Las Vegas this season posting a 2.88 ERA in 34.1 innings. Fontana hails from Staten Island, New York and pitched collegiately at Molloy College where he went 3-4 with a 3.58 ERA as a senior in 2012.
To make room on the roster the RailCats have released RHP James Adkins. Adkins went 1-3 with 4.54 ERA appearing in 15 games, six starts.
Adkins last pitched for the RailCats on Tuesday night working five innings. He allowed four runs, two earned, on six hits and two walks in a 4-1 RailCats loss to Kansas City.
