
RailCats Overmatched in Series Opener against Wichita

WICHITA, KS- One night after RailCats pitcher Karl Triana threw a no-hitter, the Cats were on the receiving end of a magnificent pitching performance. Jon Link went 9.0 innings giving up just one run helping the Witchita Wingnuts (6-9) to a 6-1 win over the RailCats (7-9) in front of 4,526 fans.
RailCats starter Travis McGee fell to 0-4 on the season after lasting 4.0 innings giving up four runs on eight hits with one walk. Link improved to 2-2 after his complete game, four-strikeout performance.
The Wingnuts got on the board first in the bottom of the second when a two RBI single followed a previous single and double. They added one more run in the third inning utilizing a walk and a single. An unearned run in the fourth inning made the score 4-0 and ended McGee's day.
The RailCats chipped into the lead in the seventh inning when Alex Crosby's double knocked in Brennan Metzger who had doubled before him. Witchita moved their lead to a comfortable distance in the bottom half of the inning by adding their final two runs.
Alex Gunn and John Kovalik appeared in relief for the RailCats and gave up two runs and five hits combined in four innings of work. Brennan Metzger was the only Cat with a two hit day, his second consecutive.
This marked the fifth straight game where the RailCats have had eight or fewer hits.
