Zimmerman Has Solid Night to Secure Victory for X's

Sioux City, IA - Explorers right-hander Ryan Zimmerman looked like his old self, pitching six solid innings with only two runs allowed to clinch the 5-2 victory over Kansas City.

Sioux City scored early and often Saturday night, jumping to a quick 2-0 lead after two innings of play. X's right-fielder Michael Lang scored the first run of the night, singling, stealing second base and scoring off a base-hit and an error. With runners at second and third, X's catcher Ralph Henriquez knocked in the second run for Sioux City with a 6-3 groundout, scoring the runner from third base.

The Explorers bats took fire in the third, plating three loud runs in a single play. With runners at first and second and one out, X's third baseman Tommy Mendonca smashed a three-run-blast over the right field wall, extending Sioux City's lead to 5-0.

Kansas City managed two runs on the night, scoring a run in the fifth and sixth innings, but wouldn't be able to overcome their three run deficit. Final score, Explorers 5, T-Bones 2 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.

Explorers starting pitcher Ryan Zimmerman (2-2) received the win, going six solid innings and only two runs scored. X's closer Connor Overton (s-4) got the save, striking out two in the ninth and cinching the victory for Sioux City.

Kansas City's right-hander David Holman (1-1) was charged with the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) in four innings pitched.

The Explorers and T-Bones will play their third and final game of the series on Sunday, first pitch- 2:00 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
