Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Gary SouthShore RailCats jumped out of the gate fast on Saturday night in Wichita scoring six runs in the first on the way to an 8-3 win in game two of the three game series over the Wichita Wingnuts.
Facing lefty starter Anthony Capra (0-1), who came into the game allowing 18 walks in 17 innings, the RailCats were patient at the plate from the start. Cameron Newell and Masato Fukae walked to start the game off of Capra. Brennan Metzger then followed with a bunt single to load the bases. Jeremy Hamilton then made it 1-0 with an RBI single to left.
Capra then looked to right the ship with a strike out of Jose Sermo, but then Tillman Pugh made it 2-0 with a sac fly to right field as Fukae raced home to score for the RailCats. Jose Gonzalez then walked to load the bases and the RailCats were in business. Elbert Devarie, Jerod Mederos and Cameron Newell each drew a bases loaded walk and an RBI to make it 5-0.
Masato Fukae the legged out an infield single to give the SouthShore a 6-0 lead that forced Capra from the game. Capra appeared to suffer a leg injury trying to cover first base on the Fukae single. Alex Boshers came in to get the Wingnuts out of the first but not before the RailCats scored six on three hits and sent up 12 batters to the plate.
RailCats starter Charle Rosario (2-1) was forced to warm up again after the long first inning but he did not miss a beat. Rosario retired the first five batters he faced en route to his second straight quality start. Rosario scattered five hits in six innings giving up one run in the fifth in getting his second win.
Andy Roberts had a key bases loaded strike out in the seventh with the RailCats leading it 7-1 to hold off a Wingnuts rally. The RailCats got a monster shot solo home run from Jose Sermo in the eighth inning off of rookie reliever Jesse Pratte to provide some insurance in the 8-3 win.
The two teams will play the final game of the three game series on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for 1:05 pm. The RailCats will send RHP Richard Castillo (1-1, 5.74) to the hill to face RHP Tim Brown (1-0, 3.17) for Wichita. You can catch the action starting with the Mansard's Pre-Game Show at 12:40 pm on 95.9 WEFM and online at railcatsbaseball.com.
