Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Gary, IN - Playing one-run games has become common place for the RailCats and Saturday night was no different as the RailCats (43-30) defeated St. Paul (37-35) 3-2.

The RailCats took the series and have now won seven of nine matchups between the teams this season. It was their third one run win of the season over the Saints.

The RailCats got on the board first in the second when Brian Kolb and Drew Martinez singled back-to-back off of St. Paul starter Mark Hamburger. Following a fly to center by Zac Mitchell for the first out, Nick Liles hit a ground ball off of the foot of Hamburger that third baseman Joey Becker threw wide of first. That allowed Kolb to score to make it 1-0 RailCats.

Stephen Hiscock allowed back-to-back singles to begin the game then retired the next 13 batters he faced before allowing a one-out single to Jose Hernandez in the fifth inning.

In the sixth, the RailCats started the inning with a single from Ryan Babineau and Christian Vitters followed him with a hard double down the right field line. Brian Kolb then brought both runners home with a single to center to take a 3-0 lead for the home team.

St. Paul answered with a solo shot from Ole Sheldon in the 7th to make it 3-1 RailCats. Folllowing a walk to Jose Hernandez Stephen Hiscock was relieved by Kyle Lindquist picked up two outs but the Saints Adam Frost came through with an RBI double to cut the lead to 3-2.

Hiscock picked up his first win of the season with a six inning effort. He allowed a pair of runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out two.

The RailCats 'pen duo of Ian Durham and Marco Gonzalez each retired the Saints in order in the eighth and ninth innings respectively to preserve the RailCats 18th one-run victory of the season.

With a 2-for-3 effort, Adam Klein extended his on-base streak to 28 straight games.

The RailCats and Saints complete their three-game series on Sunday at 2:10 p.m. RHP Billy Spottiswood (4-1, 3.62 ERA) goes for the RailCats; St. Paul's starter is to be announced.

Due to the inclement weather at Friday night's game, the RailCats are extending the 7 Peaks Pass of All Passes through Sunday's game with St. Paul! For more information call (219) 882-2255.
