Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
FARGO, N.D. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats activated infielder Will Savage from the Disabled List and placed right-handed pitcher David Griffin on the 7-Day Disabled List with right forearm tightness retroactive to June 19th before Wednesday's game against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Savage has missed 16 of the RailCats 28 games with concussion-like symptoms but is back in the lineup tonight, batting second and starting as the designated hitter.
Savage started in the first five games of the year and was 1-for-14 with two runs, a double, a stolen base and an RBI before being placed on the Disabled List. Savage signed his Independent Professional Baseball (IPBF) contract with Gary on June 3rd, 2018, and slashed a career-best .309/.384/.397/.781 with 24 runs, 42 hits, seven doubles, one triple, one home run, nine extra-base hits, 16 RBIs, four hit by pitches, four stolen bases, four sacrifice flies and four sacrifice hits in 45 games.
Griffin tossed two hitless innings of relief with a career-high four strikeouts on Tuesday and is 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA in five relief appearances. In 11 innings, the right-hander has allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits and eight walks while striking out 10. Griffin singed his first American Association contract with Gary on May 29th and retired all six batters he faced, one via a strikeout, that day in Canada against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Griffin recorded his first professional win in his second pro appearance on June 2nd against Kansas City after allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out one in a career-high three innings of relief.
Gary continues their 10-game road trip and three-game series vs. Fargo-Moorhead on Wednesday night at 7:02 p.m. RailCats southpaw Trevor Lubking (4-3, 2.75) makes his team-high eighth start against RedHawks left-hander Tyler Pike (4-2, 3.64) in the middle game of the series.
Gary returns home to U.S. Steel Yard on Friday, June 28th for a three-game homestand vs. the reigning American Association Champion Kansas City T-Bones. Friday's game is AmeriCAN Beer Fest, presented by Berey Bros., Indiana 105 Country Night, and another Fifth Third Bank Fireworks Friday.
