Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, fresh off of a six-game road trip, returned home Tuesday to celebrate Military Appreciation Night and open up a three-game series with the Gary Southshore Railcats. Fargo-Moorhead's Bret Helton (0-1) started his second game for the RedHawks, and was looking for his first win. The Railcats' starting pitcher, Kaleb Fontenot (0-3), also took the mound in hopes of securing his first win of the season.

Both pitchers started the game strong, only allowing two total hits through three innings of play. A leadoff walk to Devan Ahart and a single from T.J. Bennett in the bottom of the fourth inning put two runners on, both of whom scored when Corelle Prime hit a line drive over the left field wall to give the RedHawks a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning. Gary managed to bring the tying run to the plate twice in the top of the ninth, but the Fargo-Moorhead bullpen was able to get some timely outs to hang onto the lead and secure the win.

Helton finished the day with 5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 BB, 4 SO and picked up his first win with the RedHawks. The RedHawks bullpen also had a strong showing, giving up no runs on two hits and no walks. Fargo-Moorhead's Geoff Broussard managed to pick up his sixth save of the year, fifth most in the American Association.

The RedHawks (16-14) and Railcats (12-16) will play the second game of their three-game series tomorrow at 7:02 PM. LHP Tyler Pike (4-2) is scheduled to get the start for the RedHawks and LHP Trevor Lubking (4-3) is scheduled to go for the Railcats.
