Raiders Start Alberta Road Swing with 2-1 Win over Oil Kings
October 22, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince Albert Raiders News Release
The Prince Albert Raiders kicked off their three game Alberta road trip with a 2-1 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings. Max Hildebrand picked up his first WHL win, while Nolan Allan and Landon Kosior scored the Raider goals in the win.
The Raiders had two powerplays in the opening half of the first period, but failed to score on both chances. Less than a minute after killing off the second man advantage, the Oil Kings opened the scoring with 7:33 left in the opening frame, as Jaxsen Wiebe ripped a shot past Max Hildebrand from the slot to make it 1-0.
Less than three minutes later, Raider captain Nolan Allan evened things back up at 1-1 with a shot from the point beating Kolby Hay glove side. His second of the season came off of an assist from Harrison Lodewyk, as the game entered the second period tied, with the shots on goal also tied at 10-10.
The Raiders scored the only goal of the second period, and it came on an Oil Kings powerplay. Landon Kosior stripped an Edmonton forward of the puck and was off to the races working in on Hay on a breakaway. Making a forehand-backhand deke, Kosior roofed a backhand shot top shelf for his fourth goal of the season.
A total of eight penalties were called in the middle frame, with the Raiders being handed five of them, but the only special teams goal came off the stick of Kosior.
Through two periods, it was the Raider defencemen putting the Raiders on top, as Allan's and Kosior's goals gave Prince Albert a 2-1 lead heading into the third.
The Raiders shut things down in the third period, holding the Oil Kings to just seven shots in the final frame. With no goals in the third, Prince Albert closed things out, winning by a 2-1 final. Making 26 saves on 27 shots, Max Hildebrand notched his first career WHL win, also taking home second star honours.
The win snapped a four game losing streak for the Raiders, who improved to 3-6-2-0 on the season. The team hits the road for a meeting with the Rebels in Red Deer tomorrow night. Puck drop is 7pm.
