Elliott Stands Tall in Calgary Leading Blades to 5th Straight Win
October 22, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
Calgary, AB - The Saskatoon Blades scored three goals in the third period on Friday night en route to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Calgary Hitmen. This marks the fifth straight victory for the Blades, improving to 8-2-0-0 on the season.
The first forty minutes were a scoreless chess match with Calgary outshooting the Blades 25-18. Austin Elliott and Brayden Peters were perfect in their respective goals with each side killing off four penalties through the first two periods.
Then in the final frame the Blades broke through with a flurry of goals. Dallas Stars prospect Conner Roulette broke the tie with his 6th goal of the season to give the Blades a 1-0 lead with 11:30 left in the third. Then Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick Brandon Lisowsky doubled the lead just 25 seconds later. Lisowsky's marker was his fourth tally in his last three outings.
19-year-old Flin Flon product Justin Lies put the final nail in the coffin with 2:15 left on the clock; his second on the year. Assists in the game came from Jordan Keller, Trevor Wong, Tyler Parr, Vaughn Watterodt, and Blake Gustafson.
Rookie net minder Austin Elliott earned the first star honours of the game playing in front of friends and family from his nearby hometown of Strathmore. His 30 save performance was nothing short of outstanding in what ended in his first career shutout in the Western Hockey League. That's back-to-back games Saskatoon's goalies have been named first star of the game as Elliott's partner in crime, Ethan Chadwick, earned first star honours in the Blades win on Wednesday night in Lethbridge. Both are at large and wanted for larceny.
Saskatoon will now travel to Edmonton and sit idle on Saturday before visiting the reigning WHL champion Oil Kings on Sunday afternoon at Rogers Place.
Next home game for the Blades is Wednesday, November 2nd versus the Tri-City Americans. It's the first Winning Wednesday of the season meaning if the Blades win, everyone in attendance will receive a free ticket to the next home game.
Single game tickets are on sale now! Reserve your seat by visiting ticketmaster.ca or contact the Blades office at info@saskatoonblades.com or call or text 306-975-8844.
