Tigers Fall to Undefeated Rebels
October 22, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Medicine Hat, AB - Despite taking an early 2-0 lead, the Medicine Hat Tigers were unable to hand the Central Division leading Red Deer Rebels their first loss on the 2022-23 WHL campaign Friday night at Co-op Place.
Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) would get the scoring started early for the Tigers notching his 3rd of the season just 6:25 into the 1st to take a 1-0 lead, then it would be Lindstrom again capitalizing after a Hunter St. Martin (Edmonton, AB) breakaway attempt to make 2-0 Tigers at 8:57. Red Deer would respond shortly after on a power play and Jayden Grubbe notched his 3rd of the season for the Rebels at 10:08 to cut the deficit to one heading into the 1st intermission.
In the 2nd stanza the Tigers would be on their heels early in the 2nd and Ben King took advantage at 4:46 and the Tigers would be dealt with a plethora of successful penalty kills against Red Deer kept the Rebels in check for the remainder of the period making it at 2-2 draw heading to the 3rd.
But the Rebels would eventually get the go ahead goal less than five minutes in as a point shot from Matteo Fabrizi would tickle past Beckett Langkow (Fort Saskatchewan, AB) to give the Rebels the lead and they'd never relinquish it as Talon Brigley would add the insurance marker at 9:32 to give the Rebels a 4-2 lead and that would be your final tonight as Red Deer moved to 9-0 on the season, dropping the Tigers record to 3-5-1.
Red Deer would outshoot Medicine Hat 29-21 in the win and also would win the special teams battle going 1/4 with the man advantage while the Tigers ended up being 0/5 on the power play.
It's a tight turn for the Tigers as they'll turn their attention to another home tilt with an Eastern Conference foe in the Brandon Wheat Kings who are coming off a 2-1 contest in Lethbridge Friday for the first of four meetings with Medicine Hat.
Game time is set for 7:05 pm and you can get your tickets on tixx.ca
