Rage wrangle Brahmas
November 9, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (November 9)- Once praised for their road record, the Texas Brahmas found the road their enemy as they lost to the Rocky Mountain Rage 7-4 Friday evening.
The first period started in Rocky Mountain's favor with a powerplay goal from Nathan Rosychuck at the 9:35 mark. Brahmas own Chris Thompson answered back with a goal from Grant Jacobsen and Justin Kinnunen. Unfortunately, a roughing penalty from Brahmas defenseman Chris Mann led to a Daymen Rycroft powerplay goal for the Rage before intermission.
With a fresh sheet of ice, the Rage's center Simon Watson showcased his offensive skills to the home crowd. Within four minutes of the second period, Watson scored an even strength goal on Brahmas goaltender David Cacciola. Less than three minutes later, Watson slipped another goal past Cacciola, putting the Rage up 4-1.
Brahmas captain Blair Manning temporarily stopped Texas' bleeding with a powerplay goal at the 7:26 mark from linemates Anders Strome and Craig Minard. But once again, Brahmas defenseman Chris Mann found himself in the penalty box leading to a Rage powerplay goal scored by Scott Wray. At this point, Rocky Mountain led 5-2.
In a moment of desperation, Brahmas defenseman Craig Minard scored a goal past Rage's netminder Scott Reid. Grant Jacobsen and Chris Thompson recorded their second points of the night with the assists. But the night was owned by Rage's Simon Watson. The Brahmas goalie could not find an answer to Watson's offense as he completed hat trick in the winding moments of the second period.
The final period resembled the first and second as Rocky Mountain's Nick Harloff put the Rage up 7-3 resulting in a goaltender change for the Brahmas. Goalie Jim Healey saw his first action of the season due to an off night from Brahma's starter David Cacciola. Cacciola faced 37 shots.
In an attempt to come back from behind, Tim Lauila scored a goal at the 13:49 mark for the Brahmas. Grant Jacobsen and Kevin McLeod assisted on the goal. In the end, the Brahmas were unable to match the Rage as they were defeated 7-4. The Brahmas were outshot 40-30.
The Brahmas will face the Colorado Eagles Saturday night, November 10 for an 8:05 PM CST faceoff. The next home game is slated for Saturday, November 17 against the Youngstown SteelHounds. The puck will drop at 7:05 PM. Tickets are still available at (817) 336-4423 or www.brahmas.com.
