New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Scorpions came from behind for the first time this season with a 3-2 victory over Amarillo. The win gave New Mexico their first three game winning streak of the season.
The Gorillas got on the board first. Matt Miller picked up his second goal of the season at the 16:44 mark of the first period. The Scorpions came out a different team in the second period. Konrad Reeder tied the game up with a power play goal at the 4:17 mark. New Mexico took the lead on a hard working goal. Chris Robertson hustled after the dump in and passed the puck to Blair Stayzer. Stayzer tucked it inside the near post giving the Scorpions their first lead of the game.
Ross McCain has been a passing machine for the Scorpions this season and he delivered another great pass early in the third period. From behind the net, McCain delivered a perfect pass to Kevin Harvey. Harvey finished the job with his third goal of the season and the eventual game winning goal.
Amarillo tried to come back as Grant Selinger scored a shorthanded goal cutting the Scorpions lead down to one goal. In the final minute the Gorillas pulled their goalie and worked the puck continually toward the net but goaltender Mike Minard stood tall to preserve the victory.
The Scorpions continue their home stand hosting rival Arizona Saturday night. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m. inside the Santa Ana Star Center on Cibola High School night. Following the game meet the Scorpions players and staff for an all ages post-game party at Turtle Mountain Brewing Co.
