Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, WI- Charlie Curl ignited a massive six-run second inning with two outs and the La Crosse Loggers (19-13) stranded 15 runners on base as the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (18-14) topped the Loggers, 8-6, Sunday evening at Witter Field. The win was the third-straight for the Rafters who claimed the first two games of the three-game set with La Crosse. The Rafters are now two games back in the south division standings with three games remaining in the first half.

Jonathan Moroney led the Rafters 12 hit attack as the Texas A&M freshman added his 10th multi-hit game of the season, including his second four-hit game in the last three nights. Moroney is now hitting an impressive .408 with four home runs in his first 17 with the club. The Rafters are now 12-5 since Moroney joined the club on June 13. Wisconsin Rapids, now four games above the .500 mark, their highest of the season.

Robbie Coman brought in the first run of the game after Moroney recorded his first hit of the day on a base hit up the middle. Coman would knock in Moroney for his first RBI of the season, making the score, 1-0.

The Rafters added more in the second inning as the club added their biggest inning of the year on the strength of five base hits with two outs. Curl led things off with a double into the right-center gap and Taylor Stell plated Curl on two-out single to extend the lead, 2-0. The Rafters sent 10 men to the plate in the second inning as Curl, Stell, Moroney, Coman, and Erik Payne all added base knocks and the Rafters were the beneficiary of a big two-out error by the Loggers third basemen, Zak Rivera. The Rafters put the game out of reach by then as they had their largest lead of the game, 7-0.

La Crosse would battle back as the club scored six runs over the games final seven innings. Dexter Price led the way with a big two-out, two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to draw the Loggers within two, 8-6.

The Rafters used four different arms to close out the game after Rafters starting pitcher, Griffin Glaude, departed the game after three complete innings due to pitch count restrictions.

Trevor Koehn, Nick Kolarik, Derek Kawalewski and Tyler Willman closed out the games final six innings to keep the Loggers at bay, as the four combined to strand 11 Logger runners. Trevor Koehn earned his first win of the season after navigating his way through three innings pitched, yielding way to five base knocks and not allowing a run. Koehn lowered his ERA to 3.68.

With Rafters closer, JP Feyereisen, unavailable, Tyler Willman pitched the ninth inning to earn his first save of the season. Willman faced five batters and issued two base hits in the games final frame.

The Rafters will return to action tomorrow when they conclude an important three game series with La Crosse. The Rafters will begin the evening two games back with only three remaining in the first half of the Northwoods League season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fans can tune in to tomorrow's broadcast by listening on WFHR AM 1320.
