
Six unanswered Express' runs enough to beat Woodchucks 9-5

WAUSAU - The Eau Claire Express defeated the Wisconsin Woodchucks 9-5, thanks to six unanswered runs.
The Express struck first in the contest as the first three batters came into score in the top of the first inning. Chane Lynch hit a ground ball that through the right side of the infield that brought in Charlie White and Tim Wise. An error by Woodchucks' shortstop Edgar Figueroa allowed Tim Zier to score on the play to give the Express an early 3-0 lead.
The Woodchucks scored once in their first at-bats in the game to cut the deficit to two. A sacrifice fly by Matt Tellor allowed Jake Jefferies to score on the play.
The Woodchucks chipped away at the Express' lead as they plated another runner in the bottom of the third inning. Damek Tomscha brought Tyler Stieb home after Tomscha singled into right field. The Woodchucks still trailed 3-2 after the inning.
The Woodchucks gained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as they scored two runners in the inning. Rob Bennie scored after Bennie hit a lead-off double to begin the inning. Ian McLoughlin brought him in on a ground ball to the third baseman. Garrett Rucker scored on a ground ball through the middle of the infield as Figueroa redeemed himself from that error earlier in the game to give the Woodchucks a 4-3 lead.
The Express regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning thanks to back-to-back doubles in the inning. The first double in the inning was from Daniel Kihle which brought home Mike Porcaro to tie the game up at four. The very next batter Carlos Chavez hit a double into the left center field gap that brought home Kihle to give the Express a 5-4 lead.
The Express never looked back as Wise and White came into score in the top of the seventh inning to now take a 7-4 advantage. In their next at-bats in the top of the eigth inning, the Express tacked on two more to now take a 9-4 lead.
The Woodchucks got one of those runs back in the bottom of the eighth inning after John Clay Reeves scored on a Jefferies ground out.
The Woodchucks will finish their three-game series against the Eau Claire Express tomorrow night at Athletic Park. Come celebrate the Woodchucks' 20th anniversary tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 with gates opening at 5:35.
