Rox Fall in a Battle of Extra Innings to Duluth, 8-7

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox started a three game home series against the Duluth Huskies Saturday night at Faber Field as they fell in a battle of extra innings 8-7.

It was not until the bottom of the second when the game went from scoreless to a 1-0 Rox lead. With two outs on the board, the Rox third batter Devin Pearson hit a double keeping the inning alive. Clay Williamson followed Pearson with a single to score the first run for the Rox.

Duluth would come back in the top of the fifth taking a 2-1 lead over St. Cloud. The Huskies first run would score off an error by the Rox first baseman and with a two out double we would have our first lead change of the game.

The Rox answered in the bottom of the fifth regaining the lead. St. Cloud was in another two out situation when Adam Martin got up to bat coming through with a double. Charlie Morgan answered hitting one over the right field fence for a two-run home run to take a 3-2 lead over the Huskies.

St. Cloud held Duluth to three up and three down in the top of the sixth to hold onto their one point lead going into the bottom of the inning.

Dustin Breshears led off earning a walk in the bottom of the sixth to start the inning for the Rox. Pearson followed with a single to then have a wild pitch advance all runners as well as scoring Breshears for a 4-2 lead. Tim Colwell would show up big for the Rox in the bottom of the sixth posting a RBI double on two outs taking St. Cloud to a 5-2 lead over the Huskies.

In the top of the seventh the Rox would have a pitching change and bring in relief pitcher Jordan Talbot. Duluth would make it their inning posting three runs tying the game up 5-5. St. Cloud would then make another pitching change to bring in Reese Gregory, who allowed one run for the Huskies to lead 6-5 over the Rox.

Conor Keniry started the bats in the bottom of the seventh with a single followed by Breshears earning a walk. Pearson also posted a single to load the bases for the Rox with one out. Eric Loxtercamp then came into the game hitting a sacrifice fly to right field to tie the game up at six each. Paul would single to take the Rox to a 7-6 lead going into the eighth inning.

Adam Maxon would come into the game for the Rox on the mound to start the ninth. The game would be tied up again in the top of the ninth 7-7 off a single. St. Cloud went three up and three down in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.

In the top of the 11th it was John Oltman relieving Maxon on the mound posting three up and three down for the Huskies.

The Rox' Jason Hoppe would come into the game in the 12th inning as the Duluth Huskies would post a run off a single scoring their sole runner on base from second.

The Rox were unable to answer in the bottom of the 12th inning to fall by a final score of 8-7 over the Duluth Huskies.

Earning his first start with the Rox was Lucas Long tonight on the mound posting 6.0 innings of work, while Hoppe would record the loss for St. Cloud.

The St. Cloud Time's Rox' Player of the Game is Devin Pearson. Pearson went 3-for-6 including a double and posting two runs for the Rox in game one against the Duluth Huskies.

The St. Cloud Rox (13-18, 13-18 North) and the Duluth Huskies (17-13, 17-13 North) will be back in action Sunday for game two of their three game series here in St. Cloud. Game time is slated for 5:05 p.m. with the gates opening one hour prior to the first pitch.

Sunday, June 30 will be a Rox Baseball Bat Giveaway presented by the St. Cloud Hospital Stroke Center. The first 300 kids 14 and under will receive a 28" wood baseball bat. Coborn's Kids' Day will also be going on as kids have the opportunity to run the bases and get autographs on the field after the game. Game time is slated for 5:05 p.m.

The Rox final home game of the series will be on Monday, July 1 and it will be a Rox School Folder Giveaway presented by Rengel Printing. First 250 kids 12 and under will get a Rox folder for their upcoming school year. It is also "Military Mondays" presented by Regional Diagnostic Radiology. Active military members or veterans with a valid ID or military discharge papers receive a half priced reserved ticket at all Monday home Rox games (available day of game only). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
