Providence Bruins News Release
PROVIDENCE, RI - The Providence Bruins and the Hershey Bears needed extra time to determine a winner for the second night in a row, an it was the P-Bruins who skated away victorious thanks to a Chris Casto goal just 0:37 into overtime.
Once again, the P-Bruins got out to an early lead, this time with Max Talbot finishing 2:28 into the first period. Alexander Khokhlachev controlled the puck on the perimeter before threading the needle to Talbot who decked his defender and released a wrist shot that beat Ellis high glove side.
There was no scoring in the second period, but plenty of action with eight penalties issued and plenty of post-whistle scraps between the two division rivals.
Hershey tied it up 4:25 into the third when Djoos put the puck past Smith. Brian Ferlin almost put the P-Bruins back on top when he had a breakaway opportunity coming out of the penalty box, but his back hand effort was denied by Ellis. Regulation ended with the two teams tied at 1-1, o for the second night in a row the Bears and the P-Bruins took it into overtime.
Khokhlachev, Austin Czarnik, and Casto were the starting three for overtime. After losing the starting face-off, the P-Bruins forced a turnover. Khokhlachev carried the puck out of the defensive zone then dished the puck to Chris Casto who juked his defender and the blue line and released a wrist shot that found the back of the net.
The Providence Bruins collected 3 of a possible 4 points in their double header against Hershey. The Hershey Bears clinched the first play off spot of the Atlantic Division.
The P-Bruins will be back at home this Friday April 8th against the Portland Pirates.
