
Bears Clinch Playoff Berth in Overtime Setback

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Christian Djoosknotted the score with a third-period goal but Chris Casto ended the contestwith a tally just 37 seconds into overtime, sending the Providence Bruins to a2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Despite the loss, the one point gainedclinches Hershey a berth in the 2016 Calder Cup playoffs.
Forthe second straight day, the Bruins got the jump on their first shot of thegame. Alexander Khokhlachev foundMax Talbot as the trailing forward with a pass toward the point. Talbot skated down the slot, dartedleft and went across the grain with a wrist shot that beat Dan Ellis at 2:28. Hershey's penalty kill would be testedon a two-man Bruin opportunity for 1:55, but the visitors allowed just one shoton net.
Hersheyturned up the heat in the second, outshooting Providence 13-4, but goaltenderJeremy Smith kept his team in the lead after two periods.
Djoosfinally solved the netminder with a slapper from the left circle that sailedover his blocker arm at 4:25 of the third frame. Liam O'Brien and Erik Burgdoerfer assisted on the play.
Hersheyhad a glorious chance to win the game in regulation when the Bruins were handeda penalty for having too many men on the ice with less than four minutes toplay in regulation. But Smith'sbest friends, the goal posts, saved the day. Carter Camper had a shot glance off the inside of the rightpipe on his shot from the left circle, and seconds later, Chandler Stephensondrilled the crossbar with a wrist shot from the same location.
Castoended the game by faking a pass, skating quickly down the right side andsnapping a shot over Ellis' right arm.
Ellisstopped 16 of 18 shots but fell to 24-10-5 on the season. Smith made 25 saves and improved to 15-18-4. Hershey finished 0-for-6 on the powerplay and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
